ABOUT THE MOT TEST

Understand the test.
Arrive prepared.

A clear guide to what an MOT is, what is checked and what happens if your vehicle does not pass.

WHAT IS AN MOT?

A road-safety and environmental check.

Vehicles that meet the applicable age requirements need an MOT to help ensure they comply with minimum road-safety and environmental standards. An MOT certificate confirms that the vehicle met those requirements at the time of testing; it is not a guarantee of the vehicle's overall mechanical condition.

IF YOUR VEHICLE FAILS

Clear information on what needs attention.

You will receive details of the items that caused the failure. Some issues may require specialist work before the vehicle can be presented for a retest.

Because MOT rules can change, the live website should verify retest, certificate and road-use wording against current DVSA guidance before publication.
